PRESENTS

AVENTURAS LANGUAGES NOTE: Co-directors, Charley and Laura travelled to Oaxaca for the first time in 1981: "We returned in 2003. The city had the same charm, rich indigenous feel and surrounding pueblito artesans arts and crafts that it did before. We have visited one of the talleres (studios) where they make the well known black pottery, barro negro, of San Bartolo Coyotepec, Oaxaca - Oaxacan Black Pottery. Located 8 miles south of the city of Oaxaca. We also visited the indigenous Zapotec Indian weaving village of Teotitlan del Valle. It was small in 1981 with dirt roads and little indoor plumbing.  We had met Juan in the zócalo (main plaza) in Oaxaca City where he was selling weavings. Now, this village has modernized, but is still alive with tradional culture.

Our friend and colleague in Santa Cruz, California, Elisabeth Tatum, works to support a home for boys in Oaxaca City. Her website is www.Vida-Nonprofit.org, if you would like to learn more or give a tax deductible donation. Donations go 100% to materials and supplies for the boys, no monies are used for Students from AVENTURAS LANGUAGES are able to do different kinds of volunteer work and internships there. In 2008, we connected Elisabeth with Liz at Solexico and look forward to being able to coordinate more placements and more donations of money, time and materials for the boys."

The Center is located in the heart of Oaxaca's Historical Center, two blocks from the beautiful Santo Domingo ex-convent and 4 blocks from Oaxaca's "Zocalo" (downtown square). Due to the Center's location, students are surrounded by a number of cafes, art galleries, museums, shops and internet cafes.

Soléxico Campus Oaxaca is set in a typical colonial building with a large main patio where students get together during the breaks. This old style construction with thick colonial walls keeps the classrooms cool throughout the year.

The city of Oaxaca, located in the central valley of the state, is surrounded by the states of Puebla, Veracruz and Chiapas and the Pacific Ocean to the southwest. With its ethnic, cultural and historic richness, Oaxaca is an ideal place to experience the beauty of Mexico and its people. Due to Oaxaca's appreciation for ancestral traditions and its colonial architecture, UNESCO has named the city a patrimony of humanity.

Oaxaca is known for its creative, talented artists and many different types of artisans. The artists use everything from clay and fabrics to leather, iron and jewelry, making Oaxaca one of the main producers
