Volunteer Program: Sharing a friendly & hands-on time with Nicaragua

Nicaragua volunteer options with Ave Nicaraguita are related to priority areas for social development,
such as Social Work, Education and Agriculture.

Some examples of volunteer placement are:

Women's Resource Center

Volunteers can help organize activities and projects along with the counselors.
They will help with organizing and supporting staff in the preparation and conduction of workshops to empower women. Volunteers can also participate in the administration of family planning methods including condoms, regular contraceptive pills and morning-after-pills).

Child Outreach Program

Volunteers can assist the youth center coordinator in a variety of tasks.
Volunteers can also conduct training and support teen projects,
Help children with their homework, participate in food distribution and teach English.

Pre-School

Volunteers will teach English and Spanish; Organize programs for art, dancing and drawing; Foster women leadership and organizational efforts in the neighborhood among the single mothers, particularly, leadership skill building, negotiation and conflict resolution techniques. Those with special skills can organize programs in other areas.

Orphanage for Girls

Volunteers will work with orphans to help them overcome their traumas from physical and emotional abuses, create a friendly environment and grow the girls’ self-esteem. Volunteers support local Nuns, nurses and care providers; tasks range from observation to assistance. Tasks may include teaching English or vocational skills, organizing before and after school programs and assisting with fundraising projects.

Penitentiary

Those volunteers who are qualified will help prisoners with psychological, medical and dental care.
Other tasks may include: Teach English; Teach Spanish for illiterate people; Sports instructors; Vocational work:
Areas of work include weaving, cooking, dancing, drawing, jewelry and other arts and crafts.

Agriculture

Volunteer will share with a campesino cooperative knowledge and expertise.
There is much work to be done throughout the year in the areas of cattle rising, pitahaya farming, coffee cultivation and more. But more importantly volunteer are encouraged to bring and develop ideas related to fair trade, responsible eco-farming and eco-tourism.

We are currently accepting applications from individuals interested in learning Spanish and/or volunteering
at five different locations in Nicaragua: (Esteli, Leon, Granada, Masatepe-Masaya, San Juan del Sur)

Average students per instructor: 2 (also available 1 to1)

Levels offered: Beginner to High Intermediate

Student minimum age: All adults, and children with their parents

Hourly cost: Immersion from US$ 3.99

Minimum enrolment: 1-2 weeks for immersion

Qualification of teachers: Ave Nicaraguita’s instructors are university graduates or university
students with additional training in teaching Spanish as a Second Language.
And the school principal instructor holds a university degree in education.

Program description: An all-inclusive language program package:

Expanded Spanish is an immersion and super intensive Spanish language program in Nicaragua consisting of 2 weeks -one of 35 hours and another of 25 hours- of theoretical and practical lessons combined. Classes take place both at the colonial city of Granada and in Masatepe, at an impressive eco-tourist farm surrounded by outstanding views of a lake and an active volcano.

Our package includes:

GRANADA CAMPUS

Granada is a colonial town with a lot of history and life. There is a lot to see here and many friendly people who will be willing to speak with you. Lessons at Ave Nicaraguita Spanish School are taught in a bright colonial house located on La Libertad Street, only five blocks west of Central Park.

Spanish Language Course Plan:

Intensive 35 hours/week of directed activities, plus the opportunity to participate in cultural events or community work. When lodging with local families or our partner hotel, we guarantee that you will increase your chances to practice the language and get a deeper taste of our culture.

Morning session: 4 hours of personal instruction

Afternoon: 3 hours of real life language practice during excursions to points of interest such as museums, or during participation in any of our social programs or volunteer work.

MASATEPE CAMPUS

The Eco-tourist center “Flor de Pochote” is an organic model farm where different types of practical lessons take place. This farm is located a short 3 km highway drive north of the city of Granada. It is a rural community with a cool climate, surrounded by trees and great views of an active volcano and a crater lake. There is a lot that to see and do.

Spanish Language Study Plan

At the farm, lessons focus more on simple vocabulary related to organic farming and production processes in Nicaragua. Tours of the farm and surrounding areas are organized by a local guide and farm workers.

Topics practiced in the country and farm areas:

Café plantation and processing, fruit wines, raising and caring of animal farms, traditional cuisine and cooking lessons, history and archeology.

One week at each location

First week: Granada, learning focused on the city lifestyle
Second week: Flor de Pochote, hands on learning and introduction to the rural life
