Charley, Everything is going wonderfully! I think there have been 10-12 partos
since I´ve been here, so it´s been an incredibly busy week. Even
though Í´m a bit tired, it has been an amazing opportunity to
learn alot. My first day or two were a bit disorienting because I wasn´t
sure what I should do and if I was getting in the way. Also, even though
half my friends back home are Mexican and I speak spanish with them often,
it´s a different thing to be totally emersed and also have to use it
in a completely different context, like birth. But by the third day I eased
into things and became much more comfortable with the language and assisting
with births and consultations. The family is really wonderful and welcoming
just like you told me, so that really helps. I´m thoroughly enjoying
the work and the experiences and the people, just maybe I won´t want
to leave when the five weeks are up! Thank you for checking up on me! !

DETAILS ON PRACTICE STAYS
AND PRICING WITH ANGELINA
TRADITIONAL
MIDWIFERY AND HOMESTAY WITH ANGELINA AND HER TWO ASSISTANTS: All studies
with Angelina and her two assistants include a homestay with her
in her family home including wonderful Mexican food. The cost is noted below.
You must be flexible with your hours as babies arrived on their own
timing! You must have some intermediate conversational Spanish language skills
as this is an immersion experience and Angelina does not speak English! All
conversation and instruction is in Spanish! We will assess your Spanish level
ahead of time.
MIDWIFERY PROGRAM: Angelina
will accept students at all levels of educational background, even if you
have no medical or midwifery experience. We have successfully helped students
arrange this as a college credit experience. We have sent students who expressed
an interest in midwifery studies to students completing a master's level
nursing or midwifery program to practicing midwives. Students begin joining
Angelina from day one in pre-natal and post-natal home visits, clinic visit
consultations as well as in the 'partos' or births. Our student , Jasmine,
from Connecticut College spent 6 weeks with Angelina this past summer and
attended 25 births and 'caught' 5. She attended one C section operation with
Angelina and the mother in the local hospital. Participants will work
at their entry level of competency and will advance into new levels as assessed
by Angelina and her assistants. Participants will enter into all clinic
activities with her patients and will live as a member of her family.
* Note that Angelina will be present for most of your arranged time
though does leave throughout the year to present at conferences. We will
review her anticipated schedule with you for the time frame that you
are interested in.

* 4 week minimum stay period
* Intermediate Spanish Skills required!
*Angelina
does not speak English so she requires that all partipants coming
to learn from her or practice with her have at least some intermediate
Spanish language skills so that that language is not
an issue when working with her or her assistants.
Extended study discounts noted below. There is a one time $75 registration
fee plus costs noted below.
*
Angelina
does not speak any English, so students need to have at least
intermediate Spanish skills. AVENTURAS LANGUAGES will assess you and
give recommendations.
* We
are not able to offer scholarships or other discounts other than noted below
as most monies go directly to Angelina and her clinic so that she can serve
underprivileged families.
* Angelina
has to charge you even if you are already a licensed or certified midwife
as this is part of her income.
* It
is hard to accommodate women coming with their child or families. Staying
offsite and not in her home is the same price, again as this is income for
her.
* Generally, there is a four week minimum stay
required.
* We
only book up to 2-3 women at a time, so time frames can fill very
quickly.
* After
registering online your Spanish is assessed and you are confirmed for booking.
After booking is completed, you will pay 50% of fees and a portion of any
language studies. Within two months of arrival you will need to send remaining
midwifery participation fees.

with our instructor in Mexico,

AVENTURAS LANGUAGES is

authorized

provide medical category 1 CME credits for medical Spanish language and
and transcultural practice for physicians, and other medical/healthcare
professionals. This is available live online via internet as well as in-country
in a variety of countries and while participating with
Angelina.

SPANISH
IMMERSION LANGUAGE AND CULTURAL IMMERSION STUDIES: We arrange Spanish immersion
studies for students either with our partner school, Experiencia Centro Cultural
Spanish School in nearby Cuernavaca or private classes at Angelina's
home with one of our instructors. Pricing varies depending upon what your
language skills are and how long you plan to study in the area. A two week
period of combined small group classes and homestay with meals starts at
$790 depending upon homestay/study options chosen. Those students that are
more in the beginner range often attend school for 2-4 weeks first then move
into Angelina's home later for the midwifery experience. AVENTURAS
LANGUAGES provides a reduction in the registration fee below posted school
prices for students studying in the midwifery program. We can also arrange
to have
José or Lucy come
to Angelina's home to provide instruction.
